Covered Coffee Table {Tutorial}

Today I want to show you how I made my new covered coffee table.

I love Goodwill.  In one of my last trips I found this amazing coffee table, I knew I had to have it. This table has some amazing details, and it is so visually interesting.

I started by painting it Coral, to match my end tables.  I cut some foam {purchased at Hobby Lobby} the length and width of the table.  Next, I used spray adhesive and attached the foam to the top of the table.

I used duck fabric for the top.  I chose this kind because it is thicker than regular fabric, but you don't have to pay the price for the real upholstery fabric.  I cut the fabric a few inches larger than the table.

For the bottom I just folded the sides of the fabric up under and stapled all around the edges of the table, two inches in.

I love how it turned out.  The contrast of the navy blue against the coral legs make me happy.  But something was still missing.
I wanted a cute tray, and of course I needed a few family photo books.

I still love the details in the legs.

I love having a coffee table in the living room.  It seems much more "homey".  And now I have a place to show off all of our family photo books.
I'm social!  You can keep in touch with me on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and even Instagram under Christy's Cuties if you would like.

I like to party over at these awesome places!

Have a great day!

Entering the Epic Room Makeover 2012

I'm sure by now you all have heard about the EPIC ROOM MAKEOVER for 2012 that Vintage Revivals is doing, right?  If not, your about to.

Here's the room I am entering.  My new "Craft Room".  This room is small, and in the basement.  It is definitely the worst room in the house.  It is so dark.  The only light is that small one in the ceiling.  But to be crafty, you need to have a beautiful space that inspires you, right?  That's not happening for me right now.  I know Mandi can help!

The room is painted plywood.  And no, the holes aren't filled in correctly.  The rug doesn't fit the "colors" or the floor size at all.  But, it was better than cold concrete.

My "storage" is non-existent.  Also, can you see where the rug doesn't even go all the way to the wall on this side of the room?  I am ironing my fabric on that plastic fold and go table.  haha

The ceiling is caving in on me...literally.  The "trim" is just plain wood.  It's not even real trim.

Are you ready for this?  There is a SHOWER in my craft room.  Who puts a standing showing in the back corner room of the basement?  No bathroom, no sink, no toilet, just a shower.

To make it worse, the shower doesn't even have a ceiling.  But it does work, if you ever need to rinse off. HA!

Since the shower is on the right corner, it sticks out further than the rest of this wall.  Which makes it hard for me to figure out how to lay the room out.  Can you see how I'm using the shower floor as a storage space?  Oops.  See the window on the left?  Yea, it looks into a storage space that is under the addition that was added to the top level of the house.  No outside, no sun, no light, just dark...and creepy.

See.  It isn't even closed in properly.

The closet.  It's a decent size, I'm just not sure how to make it work for a craft room.  So right now it holds coats, and wreaths, and files, and baseball cards, and who knows what else.

And this is where I sew.  Another plastic fold and go table.  You should feel the vibrations on this baby when you sew.  It's epic!

What's worse is that I am able to see my husband's "Man Room" that I have re-done for him over the years.  It's a TN VOLS room.  I hand painted those ceiling squares myself.  That took forever.  But, it looks great, and makes my space look even worse.

So here is my plea, come to my house.  Help me redo my crafting space.  I have power tools, and I'm not afraid to use them.  Haha.  Well, maybe I'm a little afraid. ;)  I'm a quick learn, though.  Promise.  And I will feed you pizza, or wings from Hooter's, or BWW, or Mexican, or whatever else you would like.  Snacks, candy, and caffeine?  I promise to keep the kitchen stocked with those things!  You would have a chance to meet a real life Army Hero.  My husband.  Not that he's that important or anything.  But he's hilarious and would help us if we ask him nicely.  So, pick me.  OK!

Work it out Wednesday {One Month Down}

Happy Wednesday friends!

This is week four.  I have officially been training for The Warrior Dash and my first 5K for one month.  Honestly, I can't tell a difference in the scale or feel a change in clothing yet.  It's a little disheartening, I'm not going to lie. But, I have committed...and paid for these things so I will continue training and I will complete them.

{Taken mid run on a local trail}

Paleo Chocolate Cookies {Tasty Tuesday}

Happy Tuesday!

If you have not entered my current giveaway, you can do that here!

I almost forgot about my post for today.  Better late than never, right?  OOPS.  There has been so much interest in Paleo lately, that I thought I would share another Paleo recipe we love around here.  The plus?  It's a dessert.  Yum!

I adapted this recipe, to make it Paleo "approved".

Ingredients:
1cup shredded unsweetened coconut
1 1/2 cups Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips (soy free)
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/3 cup raw honey
1/2 cup almond butter
1 cup chopped pecans

Melt the following ingredients on the stove top:
1 1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/3 cup honey
1/2 cup almond butter

Once melted add that, along with the following ingredients, to a bowl:
1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Mix and let "set" or cool in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes until they become hard.

If you are not used to dark chocolate it takes a minute to get used to.  BUT, I love it now.  And who doesn't like a "healthy" sweet?

I have a Paleo board on Pinterest if you want to follow along.

What Paleo recipes have you tried lately?

I like to party over here.

Jewelry Box Re-do

Have you entered my birthday celebration Giveaway yet?  If not, you can head on over here and do so!

A few weeks ago I found some great things at the goodwill.  This jewelry box was one of them.

Riley is starting to get a nice bit of jewelry.  So I knew she needed one.  I started by using Krylon spray paint.  I didn't worry about taping anything off, I just went for it and sprayed.

To get the paint off of the mirror, I just used a razor blade and scrapped it off.

I wanted to "rough" the paint up a little, so I used a little sand paper in a few spots to scrap some of the paint off.  I set it on her dresser, and she couldn't wait to get some jewelry in it.

We both love it.  But I love even more than I don't have to separate necklaces when she wants to wear one.  :)

I set it on her dresser, and it definitely looks like it belongs.

I like to party at these awesome places!

Have a great day!

Twitter Goodness

I have done it.  I have joined twitter.  Because I obviously need something else to keep up with.  Or at least that is why it has taken me so long to join twitter.  I thought if I joined twitter it would just add more to my schedule.  That is until I found about about Twitterfeed!

Twitterfeed is a site that you can set up an account linking your blog to your twitter account.  By doing this, your blog posts will automatically be posted to twitter when published.  It's that simple.  Below is how it works.

There's just a few simple steps necessary to get your RSS feeds to publish to Twitter and other services. On the Create New Feed page:

1. Enter you blog URL or copy/paste your feed URL
2. Use the advanced settings to customize how the feed is tweeted. (Optional)
3. Connect one or more of your social accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) to your feed

Then just click Create Feed and you're done!
And what's even better is that it works!  Try it.  If you have been nervous about joining twitter, it honestly takes less time than anything I do social media wise.  I hope this helps you out.  It did me.

Have a great day!

This week is number three for working it out.  I'm pretty proud to say that.  haha  I've never really "stuck" to working out, or running.  And now I feel like it is just part of my day.  On my "off days" I feel like I am missing something, and I debate on working out anyway.  But, I know it is important to take some time off as well.

Neon Shirt {DIY}

Last year, not too long after starting to blog I made a neon shirt.  Unfortunately, because my lack of "know how" when it came to pictures it was not a good post.  So, here is an updated post, with better after pictures.

This is what you will need:
White T-Shirt ( I found mine at the DOLLAR TREE! No Joke! Did you know they carried shirts??)
Tie Dye Spray
Freezer paper or bag (to put in the middle of your shirt so that it doesn't bleed)
Just picture the t-shirt being white, and fliped the right direction.  sigh....

I used freezer paper for my "lines" of color. Just spray the color you want in the section you want.

Once you are done spraying the shirt, let it dry.  To get the color to set, you will need to iron or put it in the dryer for 20 minutes before washing the first time.

I like how the color is on the front, with the back being the normal white.  And I wear it quite often, and receive compliments.  That's always the true test, right?

I like to party here.
Have A Wonderful Day!!
