What I'm thinking

I do not have anything fabulous to show you today.  I just wanted to let you all see how I think about things.
Would you like to see some great hair tutorials for short hair??  I have short hair (right at shoulder's) and I never know anything cute to do to it. :(  So, I'm thinking of getting together some short hair tutorials. What do ya think??  Maybe have some guest post's from others with short hair as well?  Making it a week long series??  If you would like to participate, please let me know. :)

4th of July is coming up!  I can not wait to see my kiddo's faces.  They LOVE fireworks!

Right at, about, three weeks till the hubby comes home!  Say it with me, WOOOHOOO!

I really should be cleaning, doing laundry, and packing, but all I want to do is finish the movie.  Night and Day....yes, it has been out for a year now and I have still not seen it.  HA

It doesn't seem like my middle son should be starting Kindergarten this coming year, or that my oldest will be in 3rd. grade.  Crazy how life happens and time flies by.

I REALLY need to start planning our camping trip!  But, in 95 degree weather I don't even want to think about being outside.
Ok, I'm done for the day.  lol

Candy...yes please!

I have the decor 'redo' bug. I love it. I love it because if you look closely enough at tings you can figure out a way to make them for a fraction of the cost to buy it. My hubby loves to have candy bowls sat around in the living room. He grew up with it at his parents house and just thinks that's the way it's supposed to be. Since changing the look of our living room a few months ago I haven't had anything to use for the candy bowl. A few weeks ago I had seen a stand that I knew would be perfect for this so I set out to Goodwill and started my search!

This is what I came home with....A wooden bowl.  I loved the top of it.

A candle stick....

I used sanded both pieces down and put them togeather with some wood glue...

I then spray painted both pieced white and "washed" it with light blue.  (the color of our walls)
The top....

The bottom...

And now the finished product!

Perfect!  Now, I just have to figure out a way to keep the kids out of the candy jar when dad get's home and I have to put stuff in it.  HAHA

Hooo Are You?

Ok, I've decided to jump on the hooo are you bandwagon over at Night Owl Crafting.  One of my bloggy friends, Lindsay, from Artzy-Fartzy Momma does it every week and I enjoy reading her answers. So, lets do this!

1. Do you decorate for the 4th of July?
I do not decorate for the 4th.  I know right??  How crazy am I!  I always want to decoate....then the time runs out.  So, yesterday I went into my storage and got all kinds of things together for decoations.  I figure since I didn't make the decoations of the house....I can at least decorate for our 4th day activities with my family. :)
2. Do you you buy fireworks for the 4th of July?
It differs every year. Sometimes we pick a new place/town around us and go there to watch them.  Nashville is by FAR the best fireworks show EVER!  If you ever get the chance I would highly recommend coming and watching it for the 4th.  Depending on who's not deployed at the time we also get toether with a large group of friends and do our own show.
3. How do you celebrate the 4th of July?
We normally get together with a lot of our friends.  Military men know how to celebrate the 4th, let me tell you!  If their aren't a lot of them home, we just grill at the house and let the kids play.
4. Do you have a family member that is serving our country?
Yes, my amazing hubby!  He has been in the Army for almost 11 years now.  I am so proud of him, and to be called his wife.
5. Do you dress in red, white, or blue on the fourth?
Definately!  The kids and I all dress up in red, white, and blue!
Please come join the party so I can learn more about you!

Captain America

My boys grip at me so much for not making them things as much as I do my little girl.  It's so hard to find things for boys, while girl ideas are all over the place.  While visiting I am momma..Hear me roar, I noticed this freezer paper Captain America shirt.  I knew the boys would love it and be happy, so of course I had to make one. :)
Unfortunately I am not big with super hero's and all things boy.  So, quickly after I showed them the cool shirts I made for them they told me I did it wrong! (There should be two circles around the star...not just one)  lol  Kids, they are so honest sometimes.  It is wrong...but they still wear them and that's all that matters, right?

Savings Saturday

If you are in the Military there are a ton of ways you can save money when shopping.  Of course, shopping on post at the PX is the main way because  you will not be charged a sales tax.  However, did you know that the PX will also match prices?  All you have to do is bring in an advertisement showing the same item cheaper at a different store or a printable price from online and the PX will match that price.  I have noticed that just because the PX is "supposed" to be cheaper, on some items they are not.  So, make sure to shop around and find the best price.  If you are able to save $25 on a large item by price matching, and then save the sales tax you will walk out saving a bundle. :)

Besides normal couponing at the Commissary, did you know you can get Military Store coupons mailed to your door??  I just recently found out about the Commissary Shopper site!  Fill in your information and they will send you more your mailbox!  How amazing??

For all my non-military readers, I apologize this will not help you at all.  BUT, stay tuned for next week!  I promise to include more money saving tips, for our furry families. :)

Paperbag Skirt

First off I need to say that I LOVE when I finish something that I'm so scared to even try for MONTHS! I LOVE even more when it doesn't look half bad! HA!! I have been seeing paperbag skirts all over blog land for women, and since I'm too scared to try something for myself after the Dress FAIL, I decided I needed to do it for Riley.  And, I took pics of how I did it. :)

First, gather your supplies.  I measured Riley's waist and added about 5 inches.  I then measured the length I wanted it to be, by where I wanted it to hit her leg and added 3 inches.  I made the belt to be the same length of the skirt, with it being two inches wide.  I then cut 5 squares for the belt loops.

I started with the belt loops and sewed down both sides to use as the top and bottom.

I then sewed the belt down the sides, and on the ends.

I then made the top of the skirt by flipping it over 2 inches and sewing.

The bottom I only flipped over 1 inch.

Time to add the belt loops.  I flipped the sides under and sewed down the tops and bottoms of the loops, right under the top stitch of the skirt.

I forgot the last picture of sewing the skirt together...oops.  All I did was sew right side in down the side.  Then flipped it over and added the belt!  Tada!!

I think it's perfect!  However, my model...Riley, hates it. Boo!  She is so picky about how her clothes fit.  She thinks that since I had to tighten the skirt with the belt that it's to big.  HA!  Maybe I can hide some elastic in there somewhere and just have the belt for the looks of the paperbag skirt. ;)

Bed Dress

I have finally done it! I have finally made a dress for myself. I am on cloud nine right now. You have no idea. ;) At mine and my mother's yard sale I posted about here, I found a torn up bed ruffle in her stuff. She noticed it was all ripped up and was heading to the trash with it. I stopped her, knowing that I could find something to use it for.

I have been wanting a long, flowy, summery, maxi type of dress for this summer. I really like how light and airy the material was on the bed ruffle...and hey, it was free. So if I messed it up, really no big loss. Right? So this is what I did....

Took torn ruffle.

Cut into strips that measured around my body with a little left over for sewing.

Pined on top of layers to sew together.

All three layers sewed together.

Fold layers right sides together and pin to sew.

Finished bottom part of dress.

Pin top shirt (tank top that was stained on the bottom) to skirt for sewing.

Finished product!

Do you believe that the cameral adds 10 pounds??  I've always heard I totally believe it!  I hate looking at certain pictures of myself. :/

Pillow Fight...for a cause

I am finally done with the pillow cases that I will be donating for Pillow Fight...for a cause that Ladybird Ln. is having.  I had been thinking about it for weeks, but just decided on Saturday to stop being so scared and just do it!  It really wasn't all that bad, either.  So, I whipped up 4 of them.  The one thing I noticed is that I have NO fabrics that can be used for boys!  How do I have two boys, but NO boy fabric??  I must go to the fabric store ASAP and fix this issue! ;)

Here they are!

And yes, I did try them on pillows before knowing they would work to be donated.  HA!  I told you I am freaking out about it a little. ;)

Flower Power

I am SO excited for this post!  You see, Ladybird Ln. is having a Pillow Fight this week.  She has been advertising it for weeks now and I keep going back to it.  But I've been too scared to try it.  Sad, huh?  Its just that I know I am beginning to learn to sew and if I'm going to be giving these to a precious kid that is fighting a battle in the hospital, then I want it to be perfect!  I am only about 45 minutes from Nashville where we have an AMAZING hospital for children called Vanderbilt.  My oldest, Luke, had to stay in there for a while when he was first born.  Not only are the Dr's wonderful, but everyone who works there really does care about the children they are with.  I will be donating what I make to them.

I had seen this flower pillow over on Sun Scholars many months ago.  However, I am just now getting to it.  I'm such a procrastinator on some things.  I just knew I needed to make this for Riley's room when I seen it.  I have looked at the fleece for it....just didn't want to pay the prices I had seen. Fortunately for me....a few weekends ago I went yard sailing and there it was......5 different colors! WOOOOHOOOOO!  They were not big pieces, but for 5 colors I only paid $3!  Good Deal!  I scooped it up and got to work!

Who knows where her real pillow is...that kid looses everything! ;)

I love it!  It is smaller than the one I had seen...and I did change some small things on the one I made, but overall the same concept!  What do you think?  Do you know a little cutie that would LOVE it??  I know mine does.

I know Ladybird Ln. would love to have you join in the cause.  Just click the button below to read all of the details.  :)  I am very excited.  I hope I can make some little person happy.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all those wonderful Father's out there today!  I know we all think we have the best father, or that our hubby's are the best father.  I know I do! ;0)  But to all of the rest, I'm sure you are just as wonderful to your family!  So, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Savings Saturday

Alright, I have need to get back to normal with my coupon shopping trips!  I can deffinately tell that I have been slacking in that department since the hubby left. (Insert poor me rant here)  I'll tell you why.....because I HATE going to the stores with three kids!  Really!  It stinks!!  When you are using coupons you have to pay very close attention to prices and making sure that you are acctually putting your coupons in the correct piles as to not miss any of them at checkout.  You don't know how annoyed I get when I realize AFTER checking out that I put a coupons of a item that I did buy, in the pile that I thought I didn't buy.  Yes, it's normally one 50 cents or so....but sometimes its more than that.  And even at 50 ads up over time.  BOO!  (End rant here)

I decided it was time to get over myself and bribe the kids so I could shop!  lol  I took them to the movie department and had them pick out a $5 movie and told them that if they were good for me, then I would let them keep taht movie.  If they weren't good for me, then they lost the movie.  Yes, I am out $5 extra....but honestly, I would have bought them something anyway.  So it's a win, win.  ;)

Ooookkkk, back to the post.  This is what I got:

In case you can't tell very well this is what I got:
4 fly swaters - FREE
2 bug tape strips - FREE
5 Noxema shavers - FREE
2 trial size Tide - 50 cents each
3 packs of Gum - 12 cents each
2 Red Cross trial size packages - 50 cents each
1 trial size Secret deodorant - 25 cents
3 Colgate Kids Toothpastes - 1.00 each
1 Windex - Free
2 Snuggle Dryer Sheets - 75 cents each
Nexcare Bandages - 1.00 each

That is a total of $7.36 out of pocket!
And a SAVINGS of $29.95. WOOOHOOOO!

I am super stoked about my savings!

Now, tell me what you saved this week??  I would love to hear. :)

Girl's Room Redo

Well, apparently I am WAY behind on this Pinterest thing.  I have been seeing in around on the blog sphere for a few weeks but really never took the time to find out what it was....until tonight.  I finally sat down and dug into it.  And, like everyone else I am BLOWN away!
I have been thinking of re-doing my daughter's room.  But I just didn't know how I wanted to do it.  I wanted it to be girly, but not all pink.  I was ready to move out of the "baby" stage, but not ready for the tween stage.  Look at all of these ideas that I love!

Are you seeing a "theme" here?? Yep, I think I am in LOVE with orange and pink....and Pinterest! Stick around to see some room re-does now that I have an idea to go off of. :)
